About the Maine Collection
The Coast of Maine Seascape and Landscape Paintings
The coast of Maine has always fascinated Mathios. His interpretation of the boulder-strewn
coast in bright hues is in contrast to conventional Maine paintings usually
somber in tone with dark menacing clouds. "Although winter scenes in Maine
seem bleak and dark, to me, Maine summer sunlight energizes colors and the
coast, especially in the area of Ogunquit north, seems to be a much brighter
colorful place. In my mind I see vibrant hues everywhere and that is how I
portray Maine."
